Vacation Update Gulf Coast, Tupelo
Day 18: We spent the night in Meridan Mississippi. The weather is turning colder and I am not liking it at all. I am very Grateful today that we were able to avoid al the bad weather. We stopped in Gulport and had lunch…and let the weather get past us. There were heavy storms and tornado warnings. We avoided it all!
Day 19: We arrived in Tupelo and will spend a few quiet days visiting the kids and our lovely grandchildren. Pictures of the gulf coast follow.
It is hard to believe two and 1/2 years have passed. The devastation is still awful. There is a lot of new construction and some new homes. It amazes me…we passed a bunch of brand new casinos, huge casinos. I know they need to provide jobs in this area but to me it was sad to see all these grand buildings where there used to be homes. You would see the foundations just sitting there next to the huge corporate buildings.
A lot of these pictures are from Gulfport, I didn’t get many that turned out, but you will get the idea. This area is far from recovered.

Never been - looks like a blllllaaaaast! Thx for sharing *hugs* and travel safely.

Is this the first time you have personally seen the storm damage? I saw it for the first time about a year ago. My mother-in-law lives in waveland. She lost everything. She has rebuilt and is as happy as ever. You were close to my neck of the woods I am in Baton Rouge. I hope you had a good trip.

Since I am from Canada, I have only seen photo and newsclips of the damage from Katrina. However, I know that many still suffer from its effects. I pray for those people often.
Thanks so much for commenting on my post and leaving the kind words about Michelle’s recovery. I appreciate your kindness and your friendship.
Blessings,
Mary

So happy you get to spend some time with the grandbaby. Your pictures make me sad a country as great as the USA has not done more to rebuild this area. I was wondering about you and the storms I saw on the news, so happy to hear you waited them out! Blessings, Cricket

Where are you, Mo, that you are getting ice? We were supposed to have freezing rain here in Tn., but it passed us. They are getting it in Bowling Green, Ky.
I’m glad you will be home this weekend. I miss getting your sweet comments on my blog.
Stay safe.

Amazing how long it takes to rebuild. It’s a good reminder to not forget about those who were affected by this and other tragedies. Found the photos very interesting.
~Thanks for the visit. It is still awful down there. Glad you liked the photos ….Mo
