| Thirteen Things about GreatfullivinThis is meant in fun and not to hurt any city dwellers. If you are a Rural Hoosier you will get the humor! 13 Rules of Southern Rural Indiana 1. Pull up your droopy pants! You just look silly!
2. It is called a “DIRT ROAD.” I drive a truck because
I want to drive a truck. No matter how slow you drive
you are going to get dust on your Lexus. Please pull
over and let us go around.
3. We understand that you drive a car worth $60,000
and we are impressed! We have $150,000 corn pickers
and hay balers that we only drive 3 weeks a year. Why
can’t you be impressed too, and pull over.
4.They are cattle, you know COWS, live steaks. They
may smell funny to you but around here this is what
money smells like.Maybe you should stick to a paved road.
5. Every person on every back road waves. It is called
being friendly. If you are going to travel the back roads,
get used to it. Try waving back. It’s fun.
6.We eat potatoes and gravy, beans and cornbread, and
the like. If you want sushi or cavier you will have to go to
to the corner bait shop.
7.There is no “vegatarian special” on the menu. Order steak.
Or the chefs salad..you can pick off the 2 lbs of ham and
turkey.Don’t ask to talk to the chef..(if you must), speak to
the “cook.”
8.When we set the table there are three main courses meats,
vegtables and breads. We use three spices, salt, pepper and
ketchup. By the way, we don’t know what you folks from
Cincinnati are eating but it ain’t real Chili!
9.If you bring “Coke” into this county, it had better be brown,
wet and served over ice.
10.Education, yes we have it. State Universities, Colleges,
and VoTech schools. Our kids come out of there with an
education plus a love for God and Country and they still wave
at everybody when they come home for a holiday.
11. College and High School basketball is as important to us
as the Knicks or the Lakers and a dang site more fun to watch.
12. 4 inches of snow is NOT a blizzard,..it’s a flurry.
Drive like you have some sense in it and please do not take
all our bread, milk and eggs from the grocery store. You might
have to spend a whole day before the plows and pick-ups with
blades get all the roads open.
13. When you travel our beautiful back roads, Turn down your
car stereo. We live here because we like the quiet, that
thumpity-thump-thump-thump doesn’t sound much like music
to us and we don’t want to hear it any more than we want to
see your boxers! (see #1)

My husband is from the country and grew up in the city. I wish he could read these…I know it would give him a good laugh.
I’m a city slicker and I love this TT! Don’t worry I don’t have a Lexus and I don’t like sushi….
Well, I’ll keep my Mercedes out of your neighborhood. Bwahahahahah. Excellent and thanks for all the laughs. Have a great TT.
Love #5! It’s so true. Driving through rural southern IL, kids at play interrupted their game(s) to wave at us. I wondered who they mistook us for. Then I realized what you said, they were just FRIENDLY. And it really was nice. (PS I live in Oak Park, but I was born in Elgin, so we’re practically related)

I lived in Iowa for a year, and all we could smell at times were pigs! Haha!
Cute list!
Luckily I would never ask for a vegetarian special. Ugh!
I’m not sure how eduction should give you a love of God or Courtry or anything but love of learning.
hahaha That was great! Move your Lexus was awesome! teehee
Great list, I live near a lot of farmers but not too far from the city, the best of both worlds. Still a lot of folks out here drive fancy cars and think it is weird that I drive a pick-up. I love my truck! I am up too.
Happy TT and thanks for stopping by.
Thanks for this insight. We’re rural folks, too. The pleasure cruisers who blast through would do well to take in what you say.
Very cute. I live in rural Ohio and our rules are the same!
I would love to have you stop by to check out 13 Phrases & their Origins. Also you may want to submit a recipe to win a programable slow cooker (shipping included in continental U.S.) for the contest I am offering for National Soup Month. Happy TT! Blessings, Cricket
Our country rules are a slight bit different here, too many hills for fancy corn pickers!
But the gist of it is the same!
Very funny! I’m a native Chicago girl but went to college in Muncie Indiana, so am qualified to make a statement—yessirree…..all true!! And hysterical!
Happy TT!
Hee hee hee!!!
OH NOW I’m offended!
Actually, here in Colorado we call these folks “Texans”. lol!
Happy TT!
LMAO…now thats funny. Of course, I live in Southern Cal so a Lexus is usually the type of car I see on the FWY, but I can relate to what you’re saying…Happy TT and thanks for stopping by.
ROFLMAO This sounds very much like rural Arkansas. Great list! Thanks for sharing.
I live in the country and I loved your list.
These were very funny, in fact I loved all of them, especially # 7 and 9. Happy TT.
Loved it! Made me laugh.
That was fun. I’m with you, and I live in the city!
Mine is up, too. It’s 13 things guys use to fix stuff. You’ll appreciate some of the options!

I lived in Indianapolis for a summer; I understand a lot of this humor. Agree with a lot of the “pull your fancy sports car” comments too. Even though I drive a fancy sports car — or maybe because of it?
This is funny & true, which makes it better.
I’m a small town girl myself and can chuckle at all of these. They are great. Thanks for visiting my first ever TT.
Great list! I’m a transplanted country girl (living in a suburb with 50,000 people)…some say thats a small town but uh-uh… MY town of 2500 is small…and I loved every minute of my life there. You forgot one though: we don’t serve double-tall, half-caff, mocha lattes with extra foam. We serve coffee, leaded and black! Get used to it!
Happy TT!!
That was hil-ar-i-ous!!!!!!!!!! Loved it.
Oh, man. This list rocks! And #1 went out years ago.
This is my 13th TT too
And I guess I am not as country as I thought I was. I eat beans and rice, love my cornbread, but I prefer vegetarian fare over steak and sushi is better than chocolate. Sigh LOL
Happy TT!
I’m a city slicker who appreciates country livin’! Funny stuff.
Another city slicker chuckling over here too.
*LOL* I really liked your list! I’m a city girl, but I love the countryside too!
Thanks for visiting my 13 books TT.
Your list made me smile.
Happy TT!
LOVE it! That is SO true…and my husband still doesn’t get it, after 15 years with me, and 4 years of living in rural Montana! Happy T-13!
Yes, I had fun. This is how I grew up!
Greatful, great, funny post! I’m a city dweller and I laughed my head off! What the heck is someone driving their Lexus on a DIRT ROAD for? I get it!! My question is why are people who live in the city driving trucks, SUVs, and vans on the highways, huh? Good laugh, Thanks greatful! Thanks for visiting my TT post!
Droopy pants for the loss!!!
My mom’s family lived on a farm near Avilla. Awesome list.
Too funny! I’ve seen this exact one about Texas and it is so very true.
And you’re right, Cincinnati chili isn’t really chili. Happy Thursday!
LOL Happy TT!
Wonderful!! I especially identify with #12 and #13! Well done!
Bait shop!!! Too funny. Cheers from VERY rural South Dakota.
Heck, I’d like folks to pull up their pants and turn down the music around here, but that’s just me.
Happy TT!
Excellent. You should try doing Jeff Foxworthy-like stand up comedy.
Everyone waves here to and most have impressive farm equipment. I like sushi AND cornbread and beans!
Love this list.
We live a couple of blocks off the main road, still on a paved road, never lived on a dirt road. I still like the small town rural enviornment.
Have a great TT
Thanks for the laugh — My hubby’s family is from small town Iowa. I’m sure they felt like screaming some of these at us when we visited. Happy TT!
Hear, hear to #13!!!
I LOVE….love, LOVE #6. I just hafta laugh at that….thank you, thank you.
This is ONE GREAT Thursday 13. I wish they were all like this one you did.
How great. I can hear my grandparents make all those comments. I love the one about the price of a car and the price of farm equipment that is only used a few weeks out of the year. I live that one.
Love and Hugs,
Joyce
Happy T-13… a little late! I guess I’m not a Rural Hoosier. (Hey, what IS a Rural Hoosier?)
As a city boy born and bread I’ve gotta say great list. I loved #3
Happy TT
live steaks!! lol. Too funny.
