Turning Point
I am Thankful today to be able to listen to a Bible study on cd, while I do all the rest of the things I need to do. I often listen to www.Live365.com There are lots of ministries who broadcast there. They also have a great selection of old time radio, which I absolutely love. Right now I am listening to “The Authentic Christian Life”, a study on the book of 1Corinthians by Dr. David Jeremiah, from www.turningpointonline.org He is an amazing teacher. He gives quite a history lesson as well as an in depth Bible study. This study alone has 3 volumes each of which contain 12 cds, thats 36 cds on one book of the Bible! Awesome!

“1Corinthians is an instruction manual for the church, written to believers who were surrounded by the temptations of a pagan society. Paul addresses the issues that cause division in a church. he confronts the self-centered attitudes believers hold toward each other and outsiders. He speaks directly about the motives in our hearts…1Corinthians is also a manual for our individual lives. When we learn to live well in a fellowship, we learn to live as mature believers”

A Peach of a Day
I am thankful today for such a wonderful response at work to our National Eat a Peach Day. For the past 3 months I have implemented a “food holiday” carry-in. The first month in June we had about half or so of the employees participate, with one person who no expected actually joining in for National Donut Day. In July we celebrated National Hot Fudge Sundae Day and had a few more join in. Today we had all but one employee enjoying a buffet of peach cobblers, peach pies, peach cake, peach ice cream, and just plain home canned peaches (my contribution). Everyone had such a wonderful time laughing and eating. It was such a great time of fellowship, with one employee sharing a recent blessing. I was particularly pleased to see one fellow ask her questions. God was planting seeds today, and they were not peach seeds!
Cricket - that sounds like so much fun! I could have gone crazy eating peach anything. You made me think about my grandma and recall memories of her. She has been gone for quite a few years but what memories I have that I still hold dear. All us grandkids had to say was, “Grandma, will you make us your peach cobbler?” And of course she did and of course we were in heaven when we ate it. I wish I had her recipe - which I’m sure was not written down anywhere but in her head.
Having said that, I am grateful that I had my grandma in my life as long as I did. What a special woman she was and an inspiration. She had 10 children and over 40 grandchildren and still had the ability to make each one of us know she knew us, knew things about us, loved us and made us feel special. That really is many grandchildren. I’m not sure I could keep up with that many. I haven’t thought about my grandma for a while so Cricket - thanks for the wonderful thoughts!
You are quite welcome Dawn. I also was blessed with a wise and wonderful grandma. She had the patience of Job and enough love in her heart that complete strangers (to those of us who remained) came to her funeral. I remember one man saying he was walking passed her house one evening, he hadn’t eaten in several days and hadn’t bathed for several more, and had slept on a pile of lumber at Hipp Lumber for more than a week. My grandmother saw him and said hi. She never knew a stranger. She struck up a conversation and soon invited him in to her home where she fed him, allowed him to bath while she washed his clothes and let him spend the night. The next morning she gave him $40 for a bus ticket home, which he did indeed use to go home. He told us he went home, apologized to his parents for being such “a shit”, and started rebuilding his life. He said his parents got our local paper because they have relatives here. He saw the obituary for my grandma and knew he had to come to pay his repects. He wanted her family to know what a wonderful, loving and caring person she had been. Of course we already knew that. It was nice to see what an impact she made on complete strangers. And he wasn’t the only one, only one of so many. Now it is my turn to thank you Dawn. I haven’t thought of my grandma since last March. She was truely an angel on earth. It brings me such peace to remember her.
Wow, what a beautiful memory of your grandmother, Cricket! Brought tears to my eyes for sure! Thank you so much for sharing, what an inspiration!
